What Is the Graduate Entrepreneur Stream?
The Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is one of four pathways under Alberta’s Entrepreneur category, alongside the Rural Entrepreneur Stream, Farm Stream, and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream. Unlike the Foreign Graduate stream (for applicants outside Canada), this stream is exclusively for graduates who studied in Alberta and currently hold a Post-Graduate Work Permit. Candidates register an Expression of Interest, get ranked against a points grid, and — if invited — submit a full business plan for evaluation before receiving a provincial nomination.

How the Application Process Works
- Register an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile online — no invitation needed to enter the pool.
- Your profile is scored and ranked using the Graduate Entrepreneur Stream Points Grid.
- Highest-ranking candidates receive an invitation to submit a full Business Plan.
- Submit your complete application with Business Plan within 90 days of invitation.
- A Qualified Service Provider evaluates your Business Plan (evaluation fee applies).
- Sign a Business Performance Agreement outlining terms for Alberta’s PR nomination.
- Once terms are agreed, Alberta issues a Business Application Approval Letter.
- Reside in Alberta and operate your business for 12 months, meeting agreement conditions.
- With provincial nomination secured, submit a paper-based application for Canadian permanent residence.
